The first Council of Europe Human Rights Day is a joint effort

The event titled the Council of Europe Human Rights Day will be held for the very first time in 2023. The event is jointly organised by the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities, the Human Rights Centre, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the City of Turku and Åbo Akademi University.

The idea for the event came from the Council of Europe, an active promoter of human rights. The impacts and observance of human rights in Finland will be at the core of the event. Human rights are part of the work of local authorities and the daily life of local residents although we are not used to recognising the human rights angle in these contexts.

The organisers intend to arrange the event in the future as well, but in a different location each year. The City of Turku has the honour of hosting the event this first year. The expert seminar will take place at the Arken premises of Åbo Akademi University. The event for the public will be held at the Hansa shopping centre on 4 May 2023.
